Cold Heading

The heart of our business id cold heading.

BVS has tried and tested skill in the shaping of metal by cold forging and the additional technologies associated with it.

BVS now has 11 cold heading lines comprising progressive presses (5 stations) and double cold heading presses, capable of producing 1.5 million parts a day. By cold heading, a drawn wire is transformed into components (screws, rivets, pins, etc) by progressive cold shaping stages.

The advantages of cold heading are many:

  • The parts produced show good résistance to metal fatigue because of the continuous orientation of the metal fibres
  • The mechanical characteristics of the parts are increased by cold working the rod during wire-drawing and cold heading
  • Dimensional accuracy and regularity of the surface condition of the parts
  • The transformation by cold-heading is a competitive technology given by the very high production rate (40 to 250 parts per minute), the low energy consumption and the economical use of metal that this technology involves (very good yield per 1,000).
